Ride through the breathtaking Sunnmøre region of Norway, where dramatic fjords and majestic mountains create an unforgettable backdrop for each day on the bike. Along the way, connect with local culture through Nordic culinary experiences—enjoy a fjordside lunch with a pioneering winemaker, sample homemade cheese and fresh cider with ninth-generation family farmers, and share beers and stories at an authentic fjord farm of friends locals. Between rides, unwind in three distinctive luxury stays: a historic hotel on the Brodsundet harbour in Ålesund, a serene, cabin-inspired forest retreat and a historic 5-star Relais & Chateaux manor set in a quiet fjordside village, each reflecting the beauty of Scandinavian design. You’ll also experience the UNESCO-listed West Norwegian Fjords from a unique vantage point on a private boat ride across the Storfjorden. Does it get any better?

Getting There

Ålesund, Norway, is best reached by flying into Ålesund Airport, Vigra (AES), which offers direct flights from Oslo, Bergen, and Trondheim (and possibly Amsterdam & London) via SAS, Norwegian, or Widerøe. A flybussen connects the airport to the city center, typically scheduled with flight arrivals.

1

Day 1

Ålesund

Arrive to Ålesund any time after 2pm and relax and explore town. We will meet at 4pm for a walking tour of town and then enjoy dinner at a favourite restaurant.

2

Day 2

Norangsfjorden

Our ride starts from the historic center of Ålesund. After getting fitted to your bike, set out on your first ride of the week, tracing a winding road along the dramatic shoreline of the Hjørundfjord. Along the way, you’ll pass small farms and villages perched improbably on steep hillsides—enduring symbols of Norway’s resilience and ingenuity.

At midday, enjoy lunch as guests of a local family at their farm, where a warm welcome awaits in this enchanting landscape. Afterwards, take a boat ride to the fjord’s end and continue cycling to your Relais & Châteaux manor in the village of Øye. Nestled beside the Norangsfjord, the setting feels almost unreal—making it easy to see why this historic hotel has drawn distinguished and royal visitors since 1891.

Note: on some departures, we stay in nearby Saebo at Sagafjord Hotel located on the sea

Ride Distance: 15 km; 190 m or 42 km; 495 m

Day 3

Norangsfjorden

In Norway, even the light feels serene—wake to sunlight drifting through mountain mist before enjoying a hearty breakfast. Begin the day by crossing the fjord by ferry, then set off on a ride through a quiet valley dotted with red barns and storybook farms. The route climbs steadily over two mountain passes, then descends into the next valley, eventually tracing the shoreline of the Austefjorden.

We will visit and have lunch at a historic, restored farmstead that feels like walking straight into a living cultural chapter of the Hjorundfjord. The resident artist and visionary has an infectious, warm enthusiasm for local history. Late afternoon, we will enjoy a boat transfer back to our hotel.

Ride Distance: 35 km; 500 m or 56 km; 1,000 m

4

Day 4

Norangsfjorden

Cross the fjord once more this morning and set out to ride a winding mountain pass (a lift is available if you wish), climbing steadily before descending into a wild, open valley dotted with deep green pastures and classic red barns. Towering peaks rise on either side, and with little to no traffic, this stretch feels like a true cycling sanctuary.

Your destination is yet another historic farmstead—run by the same family for generations. Here, enjoy a leisurely lunch of regional dishes. Afterward, ride down to the charming village of Sæbø and take the ferry back to the hotel for some well-deserved downtime. Relax in the fjord sauna or wander through the Victorian gardens.

This evening we will transfer to dinner at a rustic gathering place nestled right against the edge of the deep blue Hjørundfjord. The dramatic mountain peaks catch the fading evening light, reflecting on the glassy water. Depending on the season, the evening might transition into a lively gathering with acoustic music or festival energy, or settle into a profound, peaceful silence under the starry sky at the edge of the wilderness.

Ride Distance: 40 km; 730 m

5

Day 5

Skodje

Today’s journey takes you riding and dining across the Sunnmøre region, beginning with a gentle climb up a mountain pass just behind the hotel. Along the way, pedal past alpine lakes and rustic stone shelters once used by local shepherds, then pause to take in sweeping views of the majestic Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

By midday, we will arrive to Stranda, dramatically situated in world-famous Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for high cliffs and cascading waterfalls.

The day concludes at your final luxury hotel, thoughtfully designed to reflect the charm and simplicity of a traditional Norwegian family cabin.

Ride Distance: 44 km; 700 m or 62.1 km; 1,000 m

6

Day 6

Skodje

With the high mountains now behind you, ease into the gentle rhythm of local life, cycling over rolling terrain that winds along Norway’s tranquil inlets. Choose between a longer or shorter loop, pedaling in and out of quiet bays, across narrow headlands, and past rows of colorful boathouses.

Your destination is a peaceful farm, where your our host welcomes you into his home to share the true spirit of Norwegian hospitality. Sample local beers and regional delicacies as he entertains with stories, gossip, and folklore from the area.

This evening, savor the magic of the midsummer light as it fades over the fjords—a perfect, unhurried close to your final night in this remarkable place.

Ride Distance: 41 km; 600 m or 73 km; 1,000 m
