Testimonials

Larry Sams - Raleigh NC
The trip was one of the more awesome vacations I have ever taken. It met my expectations in every way. The hotels were very nice and charming, the cycling routes gorgeous, the meals incredible. The guides did an outstanding job. We chose you over some other companies largely on the recommendations of friends who had done a trip with Great Explorations. I certainly was not disappointed. On a scale of 1-10, this trip get a 12 in my book! I hope I have a chance to do another trip with you in the future. Many thanks for an incredible week of bicycling in France.
Diane H. - Cincinatti, OH - Morocco
I am so glad to have this opportunity to relay our impressions of our trip to Morocco. I know you know that my husband and I are both lawyers- a consequence of this is that we very seldom agree about anything. It’s just the nature of our education and work experience. Having said that, however we completely agree that this Morocco trip with Great Explorations was the best vacation we have ever had (and having been married 43 years, that’s saying alot). We would not have changed a thing, even doing it by ourselves. We have already decided that is the way we want to do the rest of our vacations. It truly was an eye-opening adventure to experience another culture so intimately in the medinas. In short, add up the accommodations, the sites, the biking and our guide, Sebastian and driver, and ours was truly a dream vacation. Speaking of Sebastian, the trip would definitely not have been the same without him. He is truly a man of the world with an insatiable curiosity about all things and people who inhabit it. He went above and beyond granting our requests and anticipating things we would like to do. He arranged local guides, suggested eating places and answered innumerable questions about everything. He never said “no” to any of our requests. I never once saw any expression of fatigue or frustration on his part. (That fact, alone, was extraordinary.) In conclusion, we loved every second of our trip. We know it was the result of a lot of time-consuming work on your company’s part.

Even better than I expected. Thank you for all the fabulous memories! The region was absolutely gorgeous – everywhere I looked was a picture postcard. The hotels were the very best in each area we stayed. Loved our place in Rocamadour, Les Eyzies was great too. Every meal was better than the one before. You chose the very best places for us. Thank heavens we were cycling to wear off all the fabulous food!

The guides were EXCELLENT. The scenery was gorgeous. I think one of the best things about this trip was that the group was small and it allowed our guides a lot of flexibility which they took advantage of.

Prague to Vienna Biking - Classic

“Beautiful cycling in two countries we had never been to before. Veronica and Adrian were super guides and went out of their way to meet everyones needs. For example, they arranged a lovely birthday picnic to celebrate one of the guest’s birthdays, which included bubbly and a cake! The cycling through Czech Republic and Austria was beautiful. I particularly loved the routes through the country side. The last ride of the trip which was modified by Veronica to allow our strong group of riders a more challenging last ride, was the best ride of the trip! Again, an example of how well Veronica and Adrian were able to meet the needs of the group. All the hotels while very different from one another were very nice. I particularly liked the guided walking tours in Prague and Vienna – the guides were excellent, very informative. Adrian and Veronica did a great job with bike modifications and while I personally never needed the van there were plenty of opportunities to access it.”

Morocco Biking Expedition - Classic

“Fantastic trip. The right combination of active trip, interesting country, great food and accommodations, variety, excellent guide and driver. Each accommodation was unique and I would recommend all of them. People very friendly. More moderate Arab country than others that I have visited. Best meals: The tajine from our cooking class at the Villa Maroc. The couscous lunch at the Berber house in Tik Fist. Lunch at Bab el Oued. Particularly liked visiting the kasbah at Telouet. It is beautiful and it was great to get the history from a guide. The hike to the Berber village, as well as the tea and lunch. Our guide was excellent. The camel ride out to the desert camp was fun, though it was very windy at the time. The stars were incredible. Excellent package provided before the trip. Best info we have received from any tour company. The rides were easier than expected. Excellent driver: safe, kind, always there and looking out for us and ready with water/snacks. Our guide was outstanding. Very knowledgeable, read our group well, very positive, excellent cyclist. Loved the country, the food, the culture, the history, being with friends. Best rides: descent from Telouet, descent from the Plateau de Kik, approach to Ouirgane, descent from Tin Mal. We chose GE because it is a Canadian company that uses local guides. Friends had been on this trip with GE and really recommended it. Accommodations looked good. Price appropriate, prompt response re: initial quotes, ability to customize.”

Morocco Biking Expedition - Luxe

“A very well planned trip that covered a wide range of terrain including the Sahara desert, Atlas Mountains and coastal area of Essaouira finishing in the very interesting city of Marrakech. YSL museum and gardens was excellent. Hike to the Berber village was one of the best days! Desert night was very unique! Our guides and drivers took very good care of us. The vans were always available when needed and the drivers took great care to make sure nobody got lost. The amazing culture and variation in terrain was ideal however most enjoyable were the guides and drivers. I always felt safe and well looked after. We chose Great Explorations again as we have traveled with them to Vietnam and Northern Thailand and both were great trips.”

Prague to Vienna Biking - Luxe

“I enjoyed biking places that cars can’t go to, feeling like I’d exercised, the accommodations were very nice: we enjoyed the Richard the LionHeart Hotel in Dernstein. I loved the antiques and the fact that it was quiet. The pool area and courtyard are really nice. Really liked the meal at the hotel on top of the steep hill beside the church in Austria and the meals in Durnstein. The guided tours of the cities were good. We love wineries and have been to many.”

Prague to Vienna Biking - Luxe

“The days were all special in their own way and everything was taken care of… We just had to participate and not plan. We had very high expectations given the feedback we got from friends, and they were met. The ability to tailor the riding routes to the riders (easier to more difficult) was a nice option for the group. Culturally the area was what we expected, having been to Europe a few times. The itinerary was a nice blend of historic and sightseeing/adventure. The local guides were super helpful in getting the most from the places we visited. We were on the Luxe tour and the hotels were better than we expected… Great location, historical significance and/or great amenities. Meals were good to great. Events were varied and well organized and I got a lot out of them. I personally found the historical walking tour with very knowledgeable guide in Prague very informative. She helped me understand the context of the history and the people with deep local knowledge. The gps app worked well; I didn’t use paper maps. The signage was also very good so we never felt ‘lost’. I like how the guides were gauging everyone’s fitness level and motivation on how hard to push and how they gauged this every day. The level of difficulty and duration was what I expected and hoped for. Helped that the weather was perfect for riding. Van & mechanical support were very good, slightly out of sight but we knew they were there all the time as needed. Good quality bikes in good working order. Slightly bigger tires and carbon forks were nice given the variable road conditions.”

Turkey Biking

“Enjoyed the County and our guide, Mehmet. The last 3 days of cycling were the most enjoyable. Mehmet knowledge and passion for Turkey’s history and culture was so wonderful. We enjoyed all the side trips and learning more about Turkey. The second half our the trip was more of what I expected, cycling along the waters edge. The roads were also easier to bike on. Ride options were good. There was a variety of hotels we stayed in, some better than others but the overall they were fine. Most of the meals we had at restaurants were good, Mehmet did a great job of recommending where to eat and what to order.”

Portugal Biking

“The trip was exactly what we expected. The group of cyclists helped make the trip a great trip. We had a fantastic trip and look forward to the next one. The rides were great. I liked the change up from harder to easier every other day. All the hotels were wonderful. We were super lucky to have arrived in Marvao the day of the festival which was a fantastic way to end the trip. Particularly liked the meal in Estremoz as well as Arrioles. The guides did a great job in ordering food. Never needed to read the route as the guides made sure we stayed all together. Bikes were all good- the gears were great. Enjoyed the guides and the food and the accommodation! And the 2 picnics we had were wonderful. Was great to not go to a restaurant everyday for lunch. We chose Great Explorations because we had had good recommendations from friends.”

Prague to Vienna Biking - Classic

“Great guides and great location makes a great trip experience. I had no expectations as I had never been to any of these places so they were all interesting and enjoyable. I am accustom to modern North American hotels so these European hotels were to me, unique and different making them enjoyable to stay in. The underground tunnels in Tabor were fascinating. The tour of the Budweiser factory was also interesting. The “ride with gps” route data was handy and the overall maps were useful for pre-orientation but we did not need to use them as we were always with a guide. The distances were just enough for us but the guides were flexible to add or cut distance if necessary. Yes the van was available and we made use of it at strategic points. The bikes were suitable for the type riding we were doing.”
Stewart Y. - Vancouver, BC

“Spectacular! Honestly, we loved the total trip and every day seemed to get better with new things to see and explore. It was a boat and had all the comforts of home and the convenience of not having to pack and move. Loved sea bream, lamb chops. E-bike was perfect for us. Giving a good workout and allowed us to keep with the group. Van & mechanical support were great.”
