map of Poland

Poland, now a member of the EU, has seen its urban centers modernize with the introduction of stylish hotels and restaurants. In the countryside, a rustic charm remains- ancient castles, horse-drawn carriages, and lush river valleys beckon touring cyclists. We have designed this tour to take advantage of the gentle Dunajec River Valley. We visit two National Parks and many sites listed by Unesco, including magnificent Krakow, the historic salt mine at Wieliczka, the enigmatic wooden churches and more. Many companies offering tours rush through Poland enroute to Slovakia or Hungary. Why rush?

Only Great Explorations:

  • Small groups, extraordinary guides, and authentic experiences.
  • Each of our trips in Poland has a local guide
  • A ride you will never forget: Dunajec cycle path
  • Order off the menu at restaurants you won't find in guidebooks
  • Distinctive, charming hotels too small for larger groups.
  • We design and operate our own trips so there are only good surprises.

Getting there :
Krakow- you may wish to arrive early to explore this fascinating city.

Krakow- We'll meet at our arrival hotel at 2:00 and enjoy a short warm-up ride on quite roads and paths through the Old Town. We'll have dinner in a restaurant that first opened in 1364 and then take in some live jazz  for which Krakow is famous.

DAY 2:
Lipnica Gospoda- Start the day riding out to the salt mine at Wieliczka, a UNESCO  listed site; this site has operated since the Middle Ages and the museum includes carved chapels and other artistic treasures. From here we pass characteristic villages and the first of many wooden churches. Arrive to Nowy Wisnicz where we'll visit the castle and overnight at Hotel Gospoda Pod Kamieniem .

DAY 3:
Znamirowice - Wooden churches were often sponsored by nobles- there are over 250 of them in this region of Poland including 6 that are listed monuments with Unesco. Czorsztyn - Taking advantage of a cycle path that follows the Dunajec River, but to start the day, we take a boat cruise to Kroscienko. From here we'll cycle into Slovakia to the village of Cerveny Klastor (Red Monastery), where Carthusian monks lived for centuries conceale from the outside world. This part of the country was at one time Hungary.
